Modern
Warehouse Management and Stock Control entail efficient and
cost effective two-way communications between the customer's
computer system and the warehouse. The objective being to
increase the speed and accuracy with which customer orders
can be fulfilled, through improved stock put-away, picking
and despatch. As in any other aspect of your business, the
most important management tool is 'real-time' information.

The
Problem
Managers
operating large warehouses now recognise the need to change
their existing paper system for something more efficient.
Until recently most supply chain businesses had to rely on
totally manual systems. Although they may have had Stock Control
few had a computerised warehouse system. Picking was done
from paper with a batch system update and no real-time controls.
In
a fast moving world, with many hundreds of pallet loads moving
every day, hold-ups can have a devastating effect. Time delays
within the distribution process not only costs business money,
they can also easily lead to lost orders and ultimately lost
customers.
The
Solution
The
SIRONA Warehouse Management System solves many of the problems
of typical businesses involved with the supply chain. However
the introduction of the latest wireless communications technology
takes the SIRONA system into the forefront of modern distribution
systems.
The
RF System
The RF system is built around the SIRONA Warehouse Management
software module plus the very latest Radio Frequency terminals.
These terminals can be either hand held portable devices or
mounted on forklift trucks. They use industry standard interfaces
so the customer's computer 'sees' them as just another data
input / output device on the system thereby minimising implementation
and maintenance costs.
The
RF terminals not only capture information to be transmitted
to the central system they also receive information that
then directs the operators' next task. All warehouse operations,
from 'putting' to 'picking' are therefore conducted in real-time
under the total control of the warehouse software. RF terminals
are used throughout the whole warehouse. Picking, put-away
and replenishment instructions are all transmitted by wireless
radio directly from the computer via the RF transmitters in
the warehouse directly to the appropriate personnel via their
hand held or truck mounted terminal.
As
items are moved, barcodes on products and bin locations are
scanned providing more information and hence improving the
accuracy of the total system. Every stock movement is immediately
transmitted to the main SIRONA Supply Chain System so that
'it' is aware at any time of the precise whereabouts of all
stock and the status of every bin location.
Paperless
Through the implementation of the SIRONA RF Warehouse System,
all operations become totally paperless. Management gains
access to instantaneous information to enable quick decisions
leading to improved customer satisfaction and improved profitability
- the aim of all modern business.
